Afro Rights Media (ARM) Associates the publishers of this site have affiliated themselves to Global Zimbabwe an organization of Zimbabwe’s Diaspora Civic Society Organizations found across all of the world’s continents.
The meeting was held in Johannesburg over the last three days and attracted Zimbabwean citizens resident in Canada, New Zealand, the United States, Japan, Zimbabwe and South Africa. ARM Associates will concern itself with media issues within the organization and intends to play a leading role in this area of its competency and expertise. The purpose of the forum will be multi-fold. The biggest function will be the concurrent formation of the Zimbabwe Diaspora Development Chamber of Commerce (ZDDC). The ZDDC is developing a master plan in the areas of financial mobilization, agriculture, manufacturing support and intellectual property management. The ZDDC (Global Forum) programme outline has already been passed to President Thabo Mbeki’s office and it has also been forwarded to the ministry of foreign affairs’ Southern Africa desk. In addition this programme has also been passed to the Southern African Development Conference so that it stops ignoring the role to be played by the more than four million Zimbabweans living in the diaspora in the democratization and development of their own country. According to Luke Dzipange Zunga, the treasurer of the Zimbabwe Diaspora Civic Society Organizations Forum, the Sadc ministers of finance have been furnished with a document which outlines its objectives including the establishment of the Zimbabwe Diaspora Development Chamber. The Sadc has also been asked to grant temporary residents permits to Zimbabwean citizens currently taking refuge in these countries until conditions in Zimbabwe make it possible for all citizens to live without the threat of insecurity. Today with the absence of rule of law and with no respect of private property many people expressed the fear that political hooligans just wake up and declare people’s property their own including houses where oppositional voices have been shut up, made homeless and are now exiled. A data base is currently being put together of the Zimbabweans who have escaped tyranny in their country. Global Zimbabwe also presents an opportunity for companies doing or intending to do business in Zimbabwe or with Zimbabweans.
