Happy birthday Nelson Mandela. Your example as a leader and human being makes the likes of so-called freedom fighters like Robert Mugfabe pale in comparison. You make people like Robert Mugabe look like what they are hateful, little unforgiving men driven by personal hatred of humanity. You make them look just exactly what they are, spiteful, selfish, hatemongers bent on destroying humanity just in order for them to enjoy exclusivity. Thank you for being the man that you are.

Nelson Mandela in the Cape Argus newsroom. He was free enough not to run away from journalists and certainly defended the right of journalists to practice their profession. So-called revolutionary Robert Mugabe has at every excuse put up a law which makes it a criminal offense for journalists to earn their bread.
This is particularly important now in the South African context where the rightwing (liberal) media takes every opportunity to wail about the failure of municipalities to deliver on services when some cases prove that some rightwing media houses prefer not to put big business on the spot when they should rightly do so.
In the picture below is former President Nelson Mandela, with his hand on former Cape Argus Senior Reporter Blackman Ngoro's shoulder, in the presence of former Cape Argus editor Moegisien Wlliams with a former freelance reporter on the newspaper, Joyful Mlamli. The picture was taken in the Cape Argus newsroom during the former president's visit in 1998. Where and when does business put the wool over the heads of journalists? When does politics do the same?

The article will explain what has given rise to this focus.
