Boosting Rasool's image, meant undoing somebody else's and for R100 000 each or more any other's was/is game |

The suspended Cape Argus' political editor, Joseph Aranes and senior reporter, Ashley Smith also suspended were allegedly privately paid R100 000 and unknown to their company, if not more to boost Ebrahim Rasool's image, reports Aranes's connection Rhoda Kadalie in the Business Day. Curiously however, she doesn't pass an opinion about this payment.
But this particular social rights activist doesn't scream "taxpayer's money!!" as she does in the cases affecting reporters who have not been paid R100 000 of tax payer's money over and above their private sector salaries. Double standards forever, Kadalie. One would have expected her to jump up and down, screaming herself voiceless about the lack of ethics this represents and that either Rasool or these journalists must resign or be fired. But nothing. Know something we don't Kadalie?
She will however engage in the inferiorization of Dali Mpofu and Snuki Zikala of the SABC whom she demands they be sacked but practices silence on Aranes and/or Smith.
This inferiorization is similar to that Kadalie has engaged in over Nomaindia Mfeketo, the same inferiorization which through his reportage Smith, Aranes and Elliot Sylvester have engaged in aso over Mfeketo.
Though it is Aranes and Smith's actions which have brought about the focus on the role of journalists in society Kadalie instead seeks their protection by foregrounding other journalists and making light Aranes and Smith's taking payment for a PR job while working as journalists.
Anyway to get to the subject of boosting the image of the premier.
Without bringing down the images of the leaders of the other factions, namely Mcebisi Skwatcha, James Ngcuklu and Nomaindia Mfeketo, these two enteprising journalists wouldn't have achieved carrying out their brief.
Ashley Smith was the front man. Joe Aranes the desk man. And the World of Coffees serves as their office where they met and interrogated many of their so-called sources imbibing all the time, from midmorning till late afternoon.
Without dragging the names of the so-called Africanist action, Aranes and Smith would have been hard-pressed to earn their monies. So they had to make Mfeketo sound as bad as possible. I wonder how much of this money was paid to Elliot Sylvester, if at all, whose job it was to make Mfeketo's name as bad as anything one doesn't want to vote for. Obviously Sylvester was elected to do that part of the job as it would seem unconnected.
Were you paid Elliot Sylvester for your part?
I find it curious that you guys are in the job to simply bring down Africans as if Coloureds are not part of the rainbow nation. However I shouldn't be taken by surprise for no Coloured intellectual has ever stood up and declared, "I'm an African".
Its always hands off Western Cape!!! as if that part of the world should experience some seismic action and be separated from the continent of Africa for it to become truly separate from Africa both physically and culturally. But that is just wishful thinking. The Western Cape is part of Africa and is African never mind who holidays there.
What would be interesting to find out is just how often Rasool met with with Aranes and Smith, where and how did he suggested they earn their monies. The premier should also tell us whether this R100 000 was paid as a lump some or was it on a monthly basis. Hoiws often? How was it split between Aranes and Smith. Was it R100 000 each? Was the reporting against the so-called Africanist faction part of why the premier paid these enterprising journalists?
It should not be left to the Independent Newspapers (Cape) to "give guidance" on the issue as Mcebisi Skwatcha suggests but the ANC should let us know what was happening because some of us became victims of the reasons why these two masketeers were being paid, could be three. The ANC should provide leadership on the issue.
What happens if the ANC in the Western Cape finds itself out of government and finds that a new premier from the opposition used taxpayer's money to promote his own image by privately paying journalists with taxpayer's money? What happens then, Skwatcha? So you have to provide leadership on this matter and not leave it to the Independent Newspapers (Cape).
My suggestion to you Mcebisi, would be to find out from Rasool, why he did it if he did it? Was the agreement to boost his image as a premier? What circumstances led him to take this decision? Was the problem within the ANC itself or was the problem associated with service delivery? If it was associated with service delivery was Aranes, Smith and Inkwenkwezi supposed to deliver editorial materials to local community newspapers as well as write in their own Cape Argus? Was the agreement to infiltrate all Independent Newspapers (Cape) and provide good coverage for the premier at the expense of others actors such as the executive mayor?
If Aranes and Smith under the banner of Inkwenkwezi were not going to provide editorial material to local or communitry newspapers which are also run by the Independent Newspapers, (Cape) at Newspaper House, St. Georges Mall, can the agreement be interpreted as having been associated with the image of the premier in service delivery or with the assassination of other political characters? Did these two interpret the brief in their own way so as to settle old scores, such as Smith's claim the the job Ngoro took in the executive mayor's office had been promised him before?
Have you also questioned yourselves as to the wisdom of the decision you took to relieve Ngoro of his duties in view of this development plus the fact that the Equality Court found Ngoro not to have been guilty of the contents of the sensational reporting of the Independent Newspapers (Cape)? That I have taken no further steps is now becoming a liability in terms of the Aranes and Smith issue. This question may come to haunt you in future considering what Aranes and Smith are being blamed of.
You have to find out answers to these questions. Failure to do this will find you to also have been inadvertent victims of the alleged plot executed under Inkwenkwezi. My struggle is for the truth and the recovery of my good name stolen through wickedness and I have the Equality Court order behind me.
