SAHRC's Jody Kollapen's competence in human rights issues questionable |

 |
Judging from the mature way the Equality Court approached and dealt with the controversy sparked off by the half-baked interpretation Jody Kollapen gave to the Cape Times about an editorial which appeared on this site, we are left with nothing else to say but question the competence of the current SAHRC leadership in matters of human rights.
We said it before and we say it again, how come Jody Kollapen hiding behind the South African Human Rights Commission simply pronounced on the editorial in such a careless manner?
This is what prompted the Democratic Alliance's Mr Kent Morkel to bring a case of unfair discrimination against Mr. Ngoro based on an article which appeared on the Afro Rights Committee in Asia website where the DA sought to have the court declare the website article, "Why Africans are on each others' throat in Cape Town and the Western Cape" as harmful to South Africa, following on Kollapen's pronouncement.
The court instead suggested that the two protagonists find an amicable way after pros and cons were debated.
Though Kollapen's organization declined to pass opinion on whether Mr. Ngoro was suitabe for future employment in the public service of South Africa the fact that he had already declared the document "harmful" might as well have sealed the fate of the writer.
In future leaders of such organizations as the South African Human Rights Commission tasked with safeguarding the integrity of the society through the protection of human rights must do more research before making "harmful" pronouncements.
This more than anything else is what is harmful to society.
It wasn't with surprise that we learnt of the alleged "racism" within the SAHRC itself and published by the Sunday Times which indicated a failure by Kollapen to deal with. I'm writing this because this chapter must be firmly closed considering all the harm Kollapen's careless statements did the writer.
Your comments were not only hurtful, Kollapen, they were also harmful to me personally. Now do two wrongs make a right?
